Experience hands-on clinical training in a safe virtual environment with the high-fidelity simulation

VR based procedural training and assessment simulations for clinicians for EID

For more than 60 years, UCLA Health has provided health care and latest in medical technology to the people of Los Angeles and throughout the world by operating nearly 200 hospitals. As part of their mission to deliver leading-edge patient care, research and education, they needed best-in-class training to prepare thousands of clinicians to effectively deal with emerging threats of infectious diseases such as Ebola, Covid variants and others. The training programs needed to be kept up to date with low cost and high turnaround times as the diseases spread very quickly.

CDiff Standard Operating Procedures for School of Nursing

This project assesses a registered nurse on the procedure and protocol to be followed by a nurse while attending a patient with CDiff illness. Learners learn the correct diagnostic process through which they diagnose the CDiff in a patient. They need to follow the right procedure involved in treating a CDiff patient and ensure safety protocols are followed. In the assessment module, the learner needs to perform the right procedures and safety protocols that they had learned in the training module. Based on their performance in the assessment module they are given a score. Training and Assessment was developed to train the clinician on effective ways of treating a CDiff patient.

Simulations based training for students at OSU College of Nursing

This project trains the patient on how to approach a postpartum woman following normal vaginal delivery of twins with a history of childhood asthma. The patient exhibits signs and symptoms of postpartum hemorrhage that the learner needs to identify by examining the patient’s medical history and by examining vital signs. And informing the patient how to breastfeed the twins

How to gather medical history

This medical based simulation is intended for medical staff to gather the medical history and identify the illness of a patient. Walk around the room and interact with the patient to gather information about his symptoms. Based on these symptoms, come up with the appropriate diagnosis. These simulations help the learners to verbalize and be confident about their diagnostic questions. HyperSkill’s authoring platform makes it easy to author training scenarios for clinicians and aid them to work on patient diagnosis and team communication skills which are essential in healthcare. SimInsights team collaborated with subject matter experts to create 3D immersive, interactive and intelligent simulation-based training and assessment for training clinical staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling emerging infectious disease outbreaks. The scenarios included simulations for PPE kit donning, PPE kit doffing, spill response, medical waste management, patient waste management, and decedent management. well.

3D Immersive Interactive and Intelligent Training for Clinicians

This project addresses communication and team training through the development of a set of virtual reality simulations using the HyperSkill platform developed by SimInsights. HyperSkill provides the capability to replicate/simulate the clinical environment within the virtual reality space, without the need to write code. Furthermore, the immersive training provides users with ideal verbal responses to challenging situations through the real-time feedback panel. SimInsights used existing recorded media to create new storyboards and flowcharts, which were implemented using HyperSkill to create three immersive 3D simulations. The clinical environment was replicated in the VR space by visiting a UCLA clinic and capturing reference images using a 360 camera which were provided as references to 3D artists. Additionally, a feedback panel was developed to debrief the learners by providing ideal responses, scoring learner responses, and measuring their confidence.

Team Training Simulation

Throughout the health care community, small groups of individuals work together as teams. Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, and other health professionals must coordinate their activities to make safe and efficient patient care a priority. However, even though a myriad of the conditions addressed by health professionals require interdisciplinary teams, members of these teams are rarely trained together, and they often come from separate disciplines and diverse educational programs. This project aims to train medical staffs in team training using Siminsights Conversational AI.
