Manage Your VR Headsets at Scale | SimInsights

K–12 Classroom VR · Fleet Management

Manage every headset from one dashboard

Deploy, update, and lock down a full classroom set of VR headsets without touching each one individually. MDM with ManageXR makes it a four-step process.

The problem

Managing VR at school scale is painful — without the right tools

Every IT coordinator managing a cart of headsets knows this feeling.

Manual provisioning eats hours

Setting up each headset individually — accounts, apps, Wi-Fi — takes 20+ minutes per device. A class set of 30 is a full day’s work.

Students access the wrong content

Without kiosk mode or app restrictions, headsets become unsupervised browsing devices. Every session risks going off-script.

Updates happen one device at a time

Pushing a new lesson or firmware update across a fleet means hunting down each headset and doing it by hand.

Setup guide

Four steps to a fully managed fleet

Most schools complete the full setup in under two hours.

1

Step 1

Create a Configuration in ManageXR

A Configuration tells every headset what to do — which apps to install, how to display the home screen, and how to connect to Wi-Fi. Set this up once and all enrolled devices inherit it automatically.

  1. Log into your ManageXR Web Console.
  2. Navigate to Configurations and click Create Configuration.
  3. Name it clearly — e.g. “Training Fleet – Quest 2”.
  4. Set your Home Screen / Kiosk Mode: standard ManageXR launcher, or lock to a single app.
  5. Under Apps & Files, add the VR apps and videos to auto-install on every device.
  6. Optionally add a Wi-Fi profile — headsets connect automatically after enrollment.
2

Step 2

Set up third-party MDM enrollment

Connect ManageXR to your Meta Horizon Admin Center so that every new Quest device automatically enrolls in your fleet on first boot.

  1. In the ManageXR portal, go to Devices → Add Device.
  2. Select your preferred Configuration for incoming devices.
  3. Download your Organization Enrollment Token.
  4. Open Meta Horizon Admin Center → Devices → Third-party MDMs.
  5. Click Create new third-party MDM enrollment and select ManageXR.
  6. Upload your Organization Enrollment Token.
  7. Save as Default Enrollment Method (recommended).
3

Step 3

Enroll your devices

The one hands-on step. Each new or factory-reset Quest device walks through a short in-headset pairing flow that ties it to your ManageXR fleet permanently.

  1. Open Meta Horizon Admin Center → Managed Devices → Enroll Devices.
  2. Select your ManageXR enrollment.
  3. Grab your new or factory-reset Quest headset and start the out-of-box experience.
  4. Enter the temporary device code shown in-headset into the Admin Center.
  5. Complete the remaining in-headset steps — enrollment finishes automatically.
Pro tip

Deploying dozens of headsets? Invest in a high-quality powered USB hub. The ManageXR Device Setup Tool lets you provision multiple headsets simultaneously — turning hours of individual enrollment into one parallel operation.

4

Step 4

Test and deploy

Enrollment is done. From here your fleet manages itself — over Wi-Fi, in the background, with no student or teacher involvement required.

  • The default Meta home screen is replaced by the ManageXR Home Screen (or your Kiosk app), confirming enrollment succeeded.
  • Every app, firmware update, or file assigned in Step 1 downloads automatically whenever the headset has Wi-Fi.
  • Changes to your Configuration push to all devices — no physical access needed.
