On Friday, November 21, SimInsights visited Hilton D. Bell Intermediate School’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) students to bring a glimpse into the future of learning and careers through immersive technology.
A Mixed Reality Science Lab: Flame Tests & Chemical Properties
This time, students stepped into a hands-on mixed reality (MR) science activity where they performed flame tests using a virtual Bunsen burner. Guided by the simulation, they learned how different chemicals produce different flame colors, an essential concept in chemistry and forensic science.
The MR environment allowed students to safely practice lab techniques, experiment with materials, and build confidence using tools they might encounter in high school or college science courses. For many, it was their first time experiencing VR or MR, making the moment even more memorable.
Career Exploration with AI
Alongside the hands-on simulations, students explored future careers using Career Coach, our AI-powered career exploration tool.
They could chat with different AI coaches and ask questions like:
- “What does a 3D designer actually do?”
- “How do I become a robotics engineer?”
- “Is programming hard to learn?”
The Career Coach walked them through job responsibilities, skills needed, and steps to get started in fields like robotics, design, healthcare, technology, and more.
Igniting Curiosity About The Future
The goal of the visit wasn’t just to introduce cool technology, it was to help students see themselves as creators, problem-solvers, and future professionals in rapidly growing industries.
Through MR science activities, VR teamwork challenges, and AI-driven career exploration, students gained hands-on exposure to tools shaping today’s innovation landscape. These middle schoolers took meaningful first steps into immersive learning and career discovery, and we can’t wait to see how far they go next!
