Design Challenge Student Competition
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) ASME holds a variety of competitions every year for engineering students from around the world, including during ASME’s annual E-Fest Digital event . However, with the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, such in-person competitions became impossible to organize. ASME collaborated with SimInsights to design, develop and host a brand new fully digital on-line competition. Utilizing the SimInsights HyperSkill platform, the competition focused on autonomous vehicles. The competition was a success with great feedback from organizers as well as student participants.
Career Pathways for Robotics
There is a growing need to better educate students on what career choices are available to them in a more engaging way. For robotics and automation careers, Clemson and SimInsights developed a simulation where students are able to experience a factory populated with various specialists in different potential fields, see them with the equipment and robots they may work with, and ask them questions about the career paths. This simulation was made for a desktop and VR experience. Students are also presented with a series of next steps that they could take to further pursue a career in the desired field.
Interactive AR Visualizations
Mechanical engineering students used the HyperSkill platform to import 3D models designed in SolidWorks to see holographic versions of their design projects on HoloLens 2. Students were able to have a detailed and realistic experience of their designs on the Hololens 2 that they would not have been able to using computer-aided design (CAD) software alone.
VR / AR Manufacturing Training
VLab is a software product for efficient creation of innovative manufacturing training content for use on a range of VR and AR devices. Specifically, VLab supports creation of equipment focused content and analytics.
Metal Additive Manufacturing
To create a system for standardizing the workflow in Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) in order to efficiently train new operators. This project uses HyperSkill to augment manufacturing training with AR.
